STEM Sundays #8
Welcome to #STEMSundays Series 8!
Meet Saleigh Derico, an Atlanta, GA native, 2018 Spelman alumna, and a 2020 North Carolina A&T State University alumna. A math major while at Spelman, Saleigh rooted her beginnings in the world of research. During her first two summers, she conducted research through Spelman and the University of Florida. It was during the summer of 2017 that she found an interest in the world of Supply Chain and Industrial Engineering. Working for GE at their Power Plant and then Hoshizaki America in the summer of 2018, helped propel Saleigh's interest to obtain a master’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University in the field of ISE. During her graduate summer, she worked with the Department of Energy as a DOE Scholar. Outside of her exceptional internship experience, she has been very committed to helping her community. Throughout her time in school, she was able to serve as a graduate teaching assistant, the Communications Intern Chair for the GE Power African-American Federation, the Secretary of Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society, and a long list of other organizations. In addition to her advocacy for helping her community, Saleigh has also received several honors and awards including the GM Scholarship, AUC DDEP Scholarship, ERC Project Scholarship, and Department of Energy Scholarship. As a master’s student Saleigh was also selected to present her graduate research as 1 of 4 students in her program in South Africa. Looking towards the future, Saleigh plans on helping influence the medical field and making an impact in her full-time role at NextEra Energy! Best of luck on all of your future endeavors Saleigh!
